PORTSMOUTH, VA – 05/22/2019 – Today, the Portsmouth Democratic Committee announced that Attorney Don Scott has been named the Democratic nominee for the 80th District in the House of Delegates, after no other candidate filed to participate in an upcoming caucus.
“Its been heartening to see such strong support from our community since we announced my candidacy,” said Scott. “It just goes to show you the people of Portsmouth are united and ready for new representation in the General Assembly.”
A scheduled caucus for June 1, 2019 at 9 AM has been cancelled.
The 80th District seat became vacant when Delegate Matthew James resigned after receiving a gubernatorial appointment.

PORTSMOUTH, VA – 05/14/2019 – Today, attorney Don Scott formally announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination to represent the 80th District in Virginia’s House of Delegates, following Delegate Matthew James’ resignation earlier this month.
“I’m ready to serve the City of Portsmouth and the Commonwealth of Virginia. My story is one of resilience, and I believe the City of Portsmouth is resilient as well.”
The campaign platform will focus on economic equality, education, and criminal justice reform.
A graduate of Texas A&M University and LSU Law School, Don opened his own firm in 2015 after serving his country as a Naval officer and a successful corporate career. He sits on numerous boards and commissions and is active in his church.
A caucus for the Democratic nomination will be held at 9 AM on June 1, 2019, at I.C. Norcom High School.
